Lord, Deliver Me From the ‘Supposed To’ Taskmaster

If we are pressing in to ‘Know Him,’ we are finding stumbling blocks along our way. Little things that can effectively trip us up and slow our progress. God, in His infinite goodness, is far more patient and longsuffering with us, than we are with others. One of the most devious taskmasters we are enslaved by, could be called the ‘supposed to’ taskmaster. He is different for each person, as he grew and developed within each individual from childhood on. But he most definitely resides within every one of us. He tries to hide behind our God-given conscience at first. Then he tries to incorporate himself into our religious training (a place he can really flourish), and control not only our actions, but our judgments and expectations of others as well. Have you honestly never been brought up short by an image of what you imagine you are ‘supposed to’ do? Or how you think you are ‘supposed to’ be? He works closely with condemnation; who we should all know is the opposite of conviction. And who of us have never felt the debilitating power of condemnation, effectively crippling our spiritual growth and bringing us misery and torment?

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” Romans 8:1. If there be no condemnation to us; then how can we give place to a condemning spirit towards others, and still imagine that we ourselves are in the Spirit? We do that quite easily, with the willing aid of our ‘supposed to’ taskmaster.

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God” Romans 12:2. “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost” Titus 3:5. The work in each one of us is not accomplished by following what we think we are supposed to do; or how we imagine that we are supposed to be. The following quotes shed more light on this:

T. Austin-Sparks from: On Knowing The Lord quote: We know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know Him. (1 John 5:20 ESV)

It is of the greatest importance for the Lord’s children to recognize fully that, above all other things, His object is that they should know Him. This is the all-governing end of all His dealings with us. This is the greatest of all our needs….

Our minds are so often occupied with service and work; we think that doing things for the Lord is the chief object of life. We are concerned about our lifework, our ministry. We think of equipment for it in terms of study and knowledge of things. Soul-winning, or teaching believers, or setting people to work, are so much in the foreground. Bible study and knowledge of the Scriptures, with efficiency in the matter of leading in Christian service as the end in view, are matters of pressing importance with all. All well and good, for these are important matters; but, back of everything the Lord is more concerned about our knowing Him than about anything else. It is very possible to have a wonderful grasp of the Scriptures, a comprehensive and intimate familiarity with doctrine; to stand for cardinal verities of the faith; to be an unceasing worker in Christian service; to have a great devotion to the salvation of men, and yet, alas, to have a very inadequate and limited personal knowledge of God within. So often the Lord has to take away our work that we may discover Him. The ultimate value of everything is not the information which we give, not the soundness of our doctrine, not the amount of work that we do, not the measure of truth that we possess, but just the fact that we know the Lord in a deep and mighty way, [end quote].

Kriston Couchey FB quote: What I have come to know about offense is that you usually don’t even realize you have been taken captive by it. It is like a drug that changes how you think and feel about things. I have been taken captive by it too often. What really exposes it is the Love of God. Offended people offend, and love is replaced with reason and control that tends to offend others, and the “bitter root” corrupts many… Sorry for the times a bitter root has come from me in the name of truth…[end quote]. It should be acknowledged here, that ‘supposed to’ and ‘offended’ work in harmony together.

“Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.” Psalms 119:165. Offend in this verse means: stumblingblock.

“For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.” James 3:2. Offend in this verse means: to cause one to stumble or fall; to err, make a mistake, to sin; to fall into misery, become wretched. While Perfect means: brought to its end, finished; wanting nothing necessary to completeness; perfect; full grown, adult, of full age, mature.

“Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:” Ephesians 4:13. Note, that Paul in no way said this could only happen after we leave this world! This is our goal; our objective; that we grow up in Christ now! And ‘supposed to’ is incapable of getting the job done. ‘Supposed to’ may look and sound good and admirable; but is really a sham, a cheap imitation, and a very effective stumblingblock to our growth. Why, because he presents himself as being ‘the Spirit,’ when he is not. He is full of reason and justification, but devoid of life. We can do everything we think we are ‘supposed to do,’ and never be changed. Our inner man is imprisoned, our light is feeble, and self still sits on the throne in our hearts. ‘Supposed to’ is a vicious taskmaster, never satisfied, always demanding more. He thrives on the very things we are warned against in Colossians 2:8, “Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.”

When we fall back on what we imagine we are ‘supposed to’ do, we are not ‘walking in the Spirit;’ we are walking in the flesh. We are called to be overcomers, rightly dividing the Word of Truth. We are called to glorify God in all things; in our living and if need be in our dying. To ‘follow Christ’ will take us out of our comfort zones; go contrary to reason; and utterly destroy our ‘supposed to taskmaster.’ Thank God, ‘whom the Son sets free, is free indeed”!!!

Postscript - I was reminded of an example of a woman doing what she thought she was supposed to do given by Art Katz in, “The Man in Whom The Spirit of God Is,” quoted here:

“I believe that every man who met with Paul in the marketplace was on a divine collision course. God intended for them to have that meeting. Don’t you love divine encounter? Don’t you like it when God sets it up? Are you preparing yourself to be a sensitive instrument in whom His Spirit can grieve? How foolish would you think me if I reprimanded a woman, a precious saint whom I have known for years, because she picked up the check at the table in the café where eight of us had breakfast together? “What do you mean you reprimanded her? You should have applauded her. She did a good thing.” But,good things are exactly what will keep us from God’s perfect thing. Do you not hunger for that which is perfect? If we keep doing good things that have their origin in our skull, and we will be completely incapacitated for the Spirit of God when He would have us to be moved.

Any one of us could have picked up the check, but she picked it up. I turned to her without thinking, and said, “Did God have you to do that?” ”Oh, yes,” she said. Instead of resuming my conversation with the person on my right, I turned to her again and repeated a second time, “Did God have you to do that?” She giggled a little bit more nervously and said, “Yes.” But it was not quite as convincing this time. I turned a third time and said, “Did God have you to do that?” “Well,” she said, “I thought it would be a good thing.” Are we refraining from good things in order that we might be reserved unto Him for that which is perfect?” [end quote].

The Global Roots of "Common Core" Education

          From Christian Education to Global Mind Control - Part 1

America has changed! We are a divided nation with eroding liberties for Christians who refuse to embrace today's contrary new rules and global values.The seeds for this transformation were planted long ago, but few saw the warning signs. Now that the evidence is too vast to deny, it may be too late to slow or stop the process. I hope not.
Today's education goals were envisioned more than a century ago by dominant elites who steered the process from behind the scenes. Though the labels changed through the years, they all followed a globalist vision toward a totalitarian world equipped to mold young minds for a socialist/Communist system. 
Each decade brought us closer to the fulfillment of this anti-Christian agenda. The latest version of the international education plan is called "Common Core" (CC) or "Common Core Standards" (CCS)  or "Common Core State Standards (CCSS). These deceptive labels hide the global agenda -- at least for the moment. [Please see "Bill Gates Teams Up With UNESCO"]
"Common Core Standards" is merely the latest extension of previous programs aimed at mind-changing compliance with UNESCO guidelines. You may remember some of the past titles: Education for All, Outcome Based Education, Quality Learning, No Child Left Behind, etc. In the years ahead, new labels and propaganda will surely continue to push this global agenda forward until the world's elite masters decide that they have reached their goal: total control of the serfs that serve them.
In an article titled "The Spiritualization of Science, Technology and Education in a One-World Society," Dr. Martin Erdmann writes,

"Aldous Huxley envisioned a future world society totally controlled by an elite group of scientists. His best-known fictional work explicating this dire prospect bore the title Brave New World. Years later he would “revisit” his prognostications only to conclude that he had underestimated the rate of change realizing his darkest fears."[5]

As you scroll down the chronology below (Part 1 of 3), notice the powerful people, the elitist organizations, and the wealthy foundations that have inspired, planned, steered and funded the transformation. Various secret societies such as Skull and Bones became the training ground of presidents and government officials who shared the vision for a New World Order.

1905.The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching (CFAT) was founded.  Together with other Carnegie Foundations, it has been a major promoter and funder of socialistic, global education projects.[6]

1908. While President Teddy Roosevelt was finishing his White House term, John Dewey was laying the foundations for a revolutionary transformation of America and the rest of the world. In "Religion and our Schools", he wrote,

"Our schools ... are performing an infinitely significant religious work. They are promoting the social unity out of which in the end genuine religious unity must grow. ...dogmatic [Christian] beliefs... we see...disappearing.... It is the part of men to... work for the transformation of all practical instrumentalities of education till they are in harmony with these ideas."[7]

1934.  The Carnegie Corporation funded the American Historical Association's  Report of the Commission on the Social Studies.  Like most of today's social studies curricula, the report called for a shift from free enterprise to collectivism:

"...the age of individualism and laissez faire in economy and government is closing and... a new age of collectivism is emerging... It may involve the limiting or supplanting of private property by public property or it may entail the preservation of private property, extended and distributed among the masses..."[8]

1942. The editor of the NEA Journal, J. Elmer Morgan, wrote an editorial titled "The United Peoples of the World." In it, he explained a world government's need for an educational branch, a world system of money and credit, a world police force, "a world bill of rights and duties."[9]
1946.  In his NEA editorial, "The Teacher and World Government," J. Elmer Morgan, wrote,

"In the struggle to establish an adequate world government, the teacher... can do much to prepare the hearts and minds of children.... At the very top of all the agencies which will assure the coming of world government must stand the school, the teacher, and the organized profession."[10]

1946. (February). As head of the World Health Organization (WHO), a Canadian psychiatrist and a World War II General, Dr. Brock Chisholm promoted the behavior modification processes that have been transforming American schools and values through the decades. Notice his hostility toward Christianity:

"We have swallowed all manner of poisonous certainties fed us by our parents, our Sunday and day school teachers... The results are frustration, inferiority, neurosis and inability to... make the world fit to live in."The re-interpretation and eventually eradication of the concept of right and wrong which has been the basis of child training... these are the belated objectives of practically all effective psychotherapy.... 
 "Psychology and sociology...  the sciences of living, should be... taught to all children in primary and secondary schools, while the study of such things as trigonometry, Latin, religions and others of specialist concern should be left to universities. Only so... can we help our children carry their responsibilities as world citizens....     
"...it has long been generally accepted that parents have perfect right to impose any points of view, any lies or fears, superstitions, prejudices, hates, or faith on their defenseless children.  It is, however, only recently that it has become a matter of certain knowledge that these things cause neuroses....
"Surely the training of children in homes and schools should be of at least as great public concern as are their vaccination...  [Individuals with] guilts, fears, inferiorites, are certain to project their hates on to others.... Any such reaction now becomes a dangerous threat to the whole world. For the very survival of the human race, world understanding, tolerance and forbearance have become absolutely essential. We must be prepared to sacrifice much.... Whatever the cost, we must learn to live in friendliness and peace ... putting aside the mistaken old ways of our elders if that is possible. If it cannot be done gently, it may have to be done roughly or even violently." [11]

This chronology will be continued in the next two installments. Meanwhile, I suggest we review this Old Testament historical cycle. Remember, when a Bible-based nation turned from our sovereign God to other gods and forces, our Lord withdrew His protection and allowed the people to face the consequences of the pathway they had chosen. That warning applies to us today!
Meanwhile, His loving protection for those who trust and follow Him should encourage us: 

"I will love You, O Lord, my strength.

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies."  Psalm 18:1-3

A Christless Pentecost

The following is a prophetic warning from Azusa Street 75 years ago, concerning the dangers of a Christless Pentecost!

Frank Bartleman was an eyewitness to the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit in 1907 at Azusa Street, Los Angeles. He has been characterized as the Reporter of the Azusa Street Revival. Nearly 75 years ago, during the outpouring, he wrote a tract warning of a Christless Pentecost...
He warned: "We may not hold a doctrine, or seek an experience, except in Christ. Many are willing to seek power in order to perform miracles, draw attention and adoration of the people to themselves, thus robbing Christ of His glory, and making a fair showing in the flesh. The greatest need would seem to be for true followers of the meek and lowly Jesus. Religious enthusiasm easily goes to seed. The human spirit so predominates the show-off, religious spirit. But we must stick to our text - CHRIST.

"Any work that exalts the Holy Ghost or 'gifts' above Jesus will finally end up in fanaticism. Whatever causes us to exalt and love Jesus is well and safe. The reverse will ruin all. The Holy Ghost is a great light, but focused on Jesus always for His revealing.

"Where the Holy Ghost is actually in control, Jesus is proclaimed the Head-the Holy Ghost, His executive."

In another place, Brother Bartleman warned:

"The temptation seems to be toward empty manifestations. This does not require any particular cross, or death to the self-life. Hence it is always popular.

"We may not put power, gifts, the Holy Ghost, or in fact anything ahead of Jesus. Any mission that exalts even the Holy Ghost above the Lord Jesus Christ is bound for the rocks of error and fanaticism."

"There seems to be a great danger of losing sight of the fact that Jesus was 'all in all' The work of Calvary, the atonement, must be the center for our consideration. The Holy Ghost will never draw our attention from Christ to Himself, but rather reveal Christ in a fuller way. We are in danger of slighting Jesus - getting Him 'lost in the temple,' by the exaltation of the Holy Ghost and of the gifts of the Spirit. Jesus must be the center of everything."

I do not take Brother Bartleman's warning lightly. The danger of a Christless Pentecost is very real today. I say to you it is possible to gather Spirit-filled people in one place, praising and lifting up their hands - and still have Christ walking among them as a stranger!

It's true He said, "Where two or three have gathered together in My name, there I am in their midst." (Matt. 18:20 NASB) But He can be in our midst as a stranger! Ignored, unrecognized - even by those who meet in His name! The Jews gathered every Sabbath in the synagogue to speak of His name, and to prophesy of His coming. They praised the name of the Father who promised to send Him. They spoke the Messiah's name with awe and reverence. Then, when He came and walked among them - He was not recognized! He was a stranger to them!

Christ, a stranger in the midst of a Spirit-filled congregation? A stranger in the midst of those who speak His name ... who worship the Father who sent Him? A stranger to those who sing His hosannas, who call Him "Lord, Lord"?

Yes! Absolutely yes! It is not only possible - it is happening among God's chosen people today!

Let me show you three ways in which we are making Christ a stranger In our midst! May the Holy Spirit take away our spiritual blindness so we can once again see Him as He really is - LORD OF ALL!

I. We Make Christ A Stranger - By Giving The Holy Spirit Pre-Eminence Over Him!

Christ, and Christ alone, must be the center of life and worship!

"And He is the head of the body, the Church: who Is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things He might have the pre-eminence. For it pleased the Father that in Him should all fullness dwell..." (Col. 1:18-19 KJV)

"That in all things He might have the pre-eminence..." That is ... distinguished and spoken of above all others. Having first place in all things. Not even the Holy Spirit is to be exalted above that name! The upper room must never overshadow the Cross! We dare not think of Christ as simply the one who sent the Holy Spirit. In other words, "Thank You, Jesus, for sending someone better." Christ sent the Holy Spirit to reveal His own fullness within us.

When the Holy Spirit becomes the center of our attention, the church gets out of focus! The Holy Spirit descended upon Christ as He came out of baptismal waters, and the Father said of Him: "This is My beloved Son ... In whom I am well pleased." The Spirit descended bodily like a dove, but the focus was on the Lamb of God ... who taketh away the sins of the world. Not the dove, but the Lamb!

Christ told His disciples of a coming Pentecost, when the Spirit would be outpoured for a single purpose: It was to be a power given to lift up the name of Christ... "But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost Is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto Me... unto the uttermost part of the earth." (Acts 1:8 KJV)

Jesus made it clear that when the Spirit comes He will not draw attention to Himself, but will focus on Christ's words. He will exalt Christ.

"When He, the Spirit of truth, is come... He shall not speak of Himself... He shall glorify Me: for He shall receive of Mine, and shall show it unto you. All things that the Father hath are Mine: therefore said I, that He shall take of Mine, and shall show It unto you." (John 16:13-15 KJV)

Jesus said, "He will show you My glory, My power, My Kingdom. He will remind you of all My words." The primary work of the Holy Spirit is not fellowship, although He does bring believers together as one in Christ. It is not ecstasy. It is not simply to teach us an unlearned tongue. The Spirit has come to exalt Christ! To guide all mankind to the truth that Christ is Lord! It is not enough to say the Spirit has brought us close to each other ... He must bring us closer to Christ!

The fullness of the Spirit is the fullness of Christ If you do not have a consuming love for Christ, you do not have a Holy Ghost baptism! Christ, the baptizer, sent the Holy Spirit to fire our souls over lost humanity, to get us out into the highways and hedges to reach the unsaved. To shake up our lazy lifestyles and get us to doing His work. The blessed Holy Spirit will be grieved, and finally withdraw, the moment men try to exalt Him above the Son of God! He will not permit His power to be abused by those who want only the gift and not Christ, the Giver!

What is a true Holy Ghost meeting? Is it where people all speak with tongues? Or where people are healed? Where saints jump for joy? Where saints are prophesying? More ... much more than that! It is where Christ is being exalted, where His holiness pierces the soul, where men and women fall before His holy throne, broken, humbled, crying, "Holy, Holy." The moving of the Holy Spirit is a moving closer to Christ, deeper in Christ, with a greater submission to His Lordship!

II. Christ Is Made A Stranger When People Praise Him, But Will Not Pray To Him!

We praise a Christ to whom we will not pray! We have become a praising people, but not a praying people. For many of God's people the prayer closet is a relic of the past. "Why ask God for what He has already promised? Just get hold of the promises and simply command deliverances!" We no longer want Christ as much as we want what He can do for us. We want an escape from pain and suffering. We want our troubles to vanish. And we are so caught up in our escape from pain, we lose the true meaning of the Cross. We refuse crosses and losses ... no Gethsemane for us! No nights of agony! We don't even know this suffering, bleeding, resurrected Christ!

We want His healing power. We want His promises of prosperity. We want His protection. We want more of this earth's goods. We want His happiness. But we really don't want Him alone!

The Church once confessed its sins - now it confesses its rights...

How many of us would serve Him if He offered nothing but Himself? No healing. No success. No prosperity. No worldly blessings. No miracles, signs, or wonders. What if - once again we had to take joyfully the spoiling of our goods? What if ... instead of clear sailing and problem-free living, we faced shipwreck, fears within and fightings without? What if ... instead of painless living, we suffered cruel mockings, stoning, bloodshed ... being sawn asunder? What if ... instead of our beautiful homes and cars, we had to wander about in deserts in sheepskins, hiding in dens and caves? What if ... instead of prosperity, we were destitute, afflicted, and tormented? And the only better thing provided for us was Christ?

Very few of God's people pray anymore! They are too busy working for Jesus to talk to Him! Ministers especially have become so busy doing kingdom work, they have little or no time left to pray. There is time to visit, to build, to travel, time to vacation, to attend meetings, time for recreation, reading, counseling, but no time to pray!

Preachers who do not pray become promoters. They become frustrated building contractors. When they lose touch with God, they lose touch with their people and their needs. Preachers who don't pray have egos that spin out of control. They want their own way. They substitute sweat for unction (anointing).

Evangelists who do not pray become stars, storytellers. They lack humility, so they manipulate crowds through emotional gimmicks. The cry of many pastors is, "Oh, God, where can I find an evangelist who doesn't care about money, or who is not promoting something? One who can bring heaven down and make Christ real! Oh, God, give me a praying man to bring my congregation to its knees!" The shame of this generation is that we have too many talented men of God and only a few who have touched God in prayer.

There is even less praying in the congregation! I'm 100% for getting prayer back in our public schools! But that's not God's real problem! His problem is getting prayer back in our homes! His problem is to get His own chosen people to pray! And you are a phony if you fight for school prayer and neglect secret-closet praying yourself!

Do we pray? Oh, yes! When we need something. We have the formula down pat; "in the name of Jesus." All we need Him for is to counter sign our petition checks before the Father.

I am weary of hearing people say, "This is such a busy age - I have no time to pray. I'd like to, but I don't have time." No! It's not lack of time; it is a lack of desire. We make time for what we really want to do. Look at our Christian young people! Wasting hours of time playing Pac-Man, Galaxy War, goofing off, bored, restless, looking for some action! But no time to pray! No time for Jesus! Oh, God! Somehow! Some way! Get this generation on its knees. Not just the Lord's Prayer, but a daily communion with Christ.

Our Savior, who has the care and concern for multiplied universes, has the time to pray just for you! He takes the time to intercede for you before the throne of God (Heb. 7:25), and you say you do not have time to pray to Him!

We work feverishly for a Christ we ignore. We will go anywhere, do anything, in His name. But we will not pray. We will sing in a choir. We will visit the sick and the prisoners. But we will not pray. We will counsel the hurt and needy; we will stay up all night to comfort a friend, but we will not pray. We will fight corruption! We will crusade for morality! We will stand up against nuclear weapons! But we will not pray!

Most of all, we don't pray because we really don't believe it works. Prayer is a bloody battleground! It is where victories are won! A place to die to self! A place where a holy God exposes secret sin! No wonder Satan tries to hinder prayer! A praying man sends a shudder through hell. That man or woman is marked because Satan knows prayer is the power that crushes his kingdom. Satan is not afraid of power-hungry saints, but he trembles at the sound of a praying saint!

III. Christ Is Made a Stranger In Our Midst - When We Want His Power More Than His Purity!

Reader Harris, an Englishman and director of The Pentecostal League of Prayer, once challenged a congregation on this matter of power and purity. He said, "Those who want power, line up to my right. Those who want purity, line up to my left." The congregation lined up 10 to 1 ... for POWER!

In the book of Acts, Pentecost was synonymous with purity more than power. Peter told the council at Jerusalem what God did at the house of Cornelius,"God...giving them the Holy Ghost, even as He did unto us...purifying their hearts by faith..." (Acts 15:8-9 KJV)

Who is the man or woman of God who has power? Is it the one who can heal the sick and raise the dead? Is it the one who can best talk in tongues and prophesy? Is it the one who draws the most people and builds the greatest church? No! The one with the power ... is the one with the purity! "...the righteous are bold as a lion... (Proverbs 28:1 KJV)

The prophet Malachi prophesied of a supernatural purge coming to God's house.

"... the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to His temple... but who may abide the day of His coming? And who shall stand when He appeareth? For He is like a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap. And He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness." (Malachi 3:1-3 KJV)

This is a dual prophecy. He speaks of Christ's first coming, and also of His second! He will come again suddenly, as a thief in the night. But first, He will purify His Church.

We are not ready for the coming of Christ! Is this the Church triumphant? Covetous, divorcing, depressed, worldly-minded, grasping for materialism and success, competitive, lukewarm, adulterous, rich and increased with goods, unaware of spiritual blindness and poverty, pleasure-loving, recreation-minded, consumed with sports, politics, and power ... is this the Church Jesus is coming for? Simply coping, filled with fear and anxiety, satisfied only to have good health and happiness?

My Bible says He is coming back for an overcoming Church! A Church without spot or wrinkle! A people whose affections are on things above! A people with clean hands and pure hearts. A people who are looking for His coming! A people with a "new Jerusalem state of mind."

The question is no longer, "What can my faith get me? What miracle will He perform for me?" The question now is, "How shall I stand before Him? How shall I make it at the judgment?" "... who shall stand when He appeareth?" (Malachi 3:2 KJV)

The question is no longer, "How do I feel - how do I get happiness? How do I get the desire of my heart?"

The question Is, "Can I withstand that moment when I stand before the Judgment Seat of Christ? How can I withstand when I've lived so carelessly, so selfishly, so neglectful of His great salvation?" The central issue now has nothing to do with this world at all. At issue is, "HAVE I NEGLECTED CHRIST IN THIS MIDNIGHT HOUR?"

The purge is going to begin in the pulpit! "...He shall purify the sons of Levi..." (Malachi 3:3 KJV) God is going to accomplish that by "turning up the heat " God is going to make things so hot, so fiery, so intense, God's men will be driven to their knees! This is the fire of the Holy Ghost! It is the fire of persecution. It is the fire of tribulation. The fire of unbelievable hardships, ridicule, gossip, financial problems. He is going to shake everything that can be shaken! He is going to shake, and scrub, and burn, and purge and purify!

No man or woman of God will escape the purging! God is determined to get all the dross and filth out of us. The purge will spread from the pulpit to the pew! Get ready, saints! God is getting ready to expose all sin, all adultery, all foolishness! The Holy Ghost is going to reprove us of sin. How can you play games when God puts you in His crucible and turns up the fire? Your Holy Ghost baptism is going to have some fire put to it now!

Malachi said "...the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven: and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up..." (Malachi 4:1 KJV)

God also promises to bring down the strongholds of the enemy! He is going to once and for all let the devil and the world know who has the power!

If God is about to do all that the prophets predicted He would ...

A purged, purified ministry!

A Church that God is calling back to repentance and holiness.

A people washed, cleansed, offering praises in true righteousness.

A revival among our young people! Drug strongholds coming down! Alcohol and divorce no longer prevalent among God's people.

The sound of prayer-intercession!

A people of God who will discern between the holy and the unholy!

Everywhere, God's people turning again to the Word.

A tested, tried people, once again devoted to the Person of Jesus Christ!

His Person being lifted up to draw all men to Him!

Christ no longer the stranger in our midst,
but CROWNED - PRE-EMINENT!

A Pentecost that truly exalts the name and power of Jesus Christ, the Lord of all.

O God, You are more awesome than Your holy places. The God of Israel is He who gives strength and power to His people. (Ps 68:35) 

The Kiss of Death

Most of us are familiar with the name Judas Iscariot. He of course was the fallen follower of Jesus Christ who betrayed Him into the hands of the chief priests and elders that sought His death in Jerusalem. You see, Jesus posed a significant threat to their status and standing in Jewish society, not to mention the treasured traditions that kept them in power and the Jewish people in bondage. They simply could not afford to let this miracle worker from Nazareth ride into town on a donkey and steal their thunder. So, after much conniving, they struck a deal with the disenchanted disciple that he might lead them to Jesus in the dark of night and identify Him with a kiss to the cheek. The other disciples probably had no idea what was going on as their friend Judas approached leading a late night raiding party. Jesus however, wasn’t the least bit fooled.

“But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?” - Luke 22:48

Many over the years have named their children after great men and women of the bible; as did my parents name me. But I have yet to hear of a single person in my lifetime named “Judas”. After all – who would have their child bear the name of Christ’s betrayer? It would be the equivalent of naming them Lucifer, Beelzebub or Satan.

“Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.” – Matthew 26: 14 -16

It’s important to note that Judas didn’t publicly reject Jesus or even quietly resign his position as a disciple before opposing him. Instead he deceitfully USED his position as a cowardly cover for his wickedness. In other words, Judas betrayed Jesus while pretending to be His friend and ally.

In light of Pontus Pilate’s own declaration of Jesus innocence and the agonizing crucifixion that followed, it’s very easy for us to sit back on our “blessed assurance” some two thousand years later and look repugnantly at a man like Judas as if we were somehow more honorable. But I would suggest to you that many of us who claim to be disciples of Christ betray Him daily with a kiss.

Every time we seek wealth, riches and glory in the name of Christ, we betray Him with a kiss. Every time we endeavor to make a name for ourselves by using His, we betray Him with a kiss. Every time we seek, encourage and accept the praise and applause of others for what God has done through us, ESPECIALLY in a worship service, we betray Him with a kiss. Every time we exchange awards and accolades among ourselves for our “reasonable service” to God, we betray Him with a kiss.

Every time we, as believers, take advantage of another emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, sexually, financially or politically, at home, at church, at work or on the street, we betray Him with a kiss. Every time we use our talents, our gifts, our testimony, our career, our ministry, our credentials, our reputation, our church, our resources or our popularity to bring attention and recognition to ourselves instead of God, we betray Him with a kiss. Every time we sit silent as a preacher, pastor, teacher, deacon, elder or lay leader deceives another with what we know to be false and unscriptural in the interest of peace and unity, we betray Him with a kiss.

Every time we fill the ears of “seekers” with humorous anecdotes, seductive flattery, humanist psychology and creeker-speak rather than risk offending them with the whole council of God, we betray Him with a kiss. Every time we keep the gospel to ourselves for the sake of career, convenience, compromise, compatibility, camaraderie or political correctness, we betray Him with a kiss. Even one that does nothing worse than give lip service to God on Sunday morning betrays Him with a kiss.

I guess we’re not so different from Judas after all, are we? We would do well to remember just how much we have in common with him as we stroll into church this Sunday wearing our Easter best. Let’s not, as my pastor so aptly put a few weeks ago, “confuse God’s approval with God’s mercy”. It could be the kiss of death.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” - Romans 12:1

Compromise Not an Option

“Why do you seek to kill me?”  It was a loaded question Jesus put to the religious leaders at least three times*.   They said He was mad to think such a thing, or in the language of the day “had a demon”.  They then withdrew temporarily to consider pressing issues related to their high and important office. The most pressing issue of course was how to kill Jesus.

The same question still hangs in the air over two thousand years later, just as it  hovered over humanity long before at the dawn of history when evil Cain met righteous Abel in a field and killed him.

It was not Jesus the rabbi, or Jesus the carpenter, or even Jesus the Nazarene the religious leaders of His day sought to kill.  It was Jesus the Christ, the Messiah, the Anointed One, they could not abide in their midst.  And so it is today.  Hardly anyone is anti-Jesus.  Jesus the cool guy from Nazareth who went around doing good, healing people and getting up the noses of the establishment was a pretty neat individual according to most people.  Add “Christ” to His Name and it’s a very different story.  The “Christ” presents humanity with dilemmas we’d rather avoid, questions we’d rather not consider.  It was Jesus’ affirmation that He was indeed the Christ, the sinless Son of God to whom all men owe obedience, that finally gave the antichrist religious leaders the excuse they needed to kill Him (Mark 14:60-64).   

If we are to follow Christ unconditionally we need to understand the same spirit that sought relentlessly to kill Christ still seeks to kill Christ in His followers.  There are three areas of life where this anti-Christ spirit, more commonly called the ‘religious spirit’, has established its power base.  

Firstly, we discern it in the world around us, growing more powerful by the hour, brazen in its mockery of anything related to the gospel of Christ, His Word or His Bride.  Its iron-clad grip embraces such things as political movements, military organisations, business empires and countless well-intentioned but deceived individuals.  We find it disguised as humanism, environmentalism, socialism, globalism and any number of other ‘isms’ mankind can come up with.

Secondly, as Jesus did, we find it hiding behind the face of religion.  That statement might cause words and phrases such as ‘jihad’, ‘sharia’, ‘nirvana’, ‘new age’ and the like to roll through our minds.  But let’s face it, the most comfortable hiding place this antichrist spirit has found is actually within the multi-structured religious system we call Christianity.  Antichrist in the church?  Indeed! Wherever the Spirit of God is resisted, quenched, denied or disobeyed in Christendom there you will find antichrist. 

Then there is a third place where antichrist seeks to set up its kingdom.  And that is deep within the soul of each and every Christ follower.   That means me, you, the pastor, the pastor’s wife, the bishop, the prophet, the youth leader, the ministry leader, the Sunday School teacher, and on it goes.  We who seek sincerely to follow Christ are a people being progressively delivered from the fatal disease of ‘religion in the flesh’.  “Oh no, not me” you say, “I don’t have a religious bone in my body.”  Oh really? So there has never been an occasion when you sought to save yourself by your own good works, when you thought God might love you more if you just tried harder to please Him, or when you looked at another person’s sins and considered yours weren’t nearly as bad?  Even the most avowed atheists are captive to religion in the flesh, because they have become their own god.

Did you ever notice that although Jesus cast out many unclean demonic spirits from people there is no gospel account that He ever cast out a religious spirit?  Perhaps that was because He knew the antichrist spirit had been so completely joined with mankind at the fall that only the continuous application of His own shed Blood and the living revelatory Word could deliver a human being from this religion in the flesh.  The flesh nature cannot be cast out; it must be crucified.

This religion of the flesh is a result of mankind’s partaking of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  Its intent is to kill anything from the Tree of Life, which is Christ, the Anointed One.  It mastered Cain (whose name means ‘acquires)’ when he murdered his brother Abel (whose name means ‘breath’ or “breeze”).  Religion in the flesh believes it can acquire for itself whatever is needed for its own salvation.  Thus Cain chose to bring to God an earthly, fleshly, sacrifice that was not acceptable.  Abel, on the other hand, brought an offering of life that had been sacrificed and blood that had been spilled, pointing forward to man’s redemption through the Blood of the Lamb of God.  Abel’s sacrifice was born of God’s own Breath, the very Spirit of God.  The Spirit and the flesh have been locked in ongoing war since the fall of mankind (Gal. 5:17).  Consequently Cain’s hatred was aroused and he killed the one who exposed his shortcoming and his need for a Savior outside himself.

The antichrist spirit will oppose the Bride of Christ at every opportunity because the true Bride is of the Spirit.  Jesus never compromised with antichrist in man and neither should we.  Every time it presented itself He confronted it without negotiation.  

Time and again Jesus called the Jewish religious leaders to account for their rigid adherence to rules and traditions while their hearts were hard against God’s Spirit. 

Peter, one of Jesus’ closest friends, opposed Jesus intention to heed the Spirit’s direction towards Jerusalem and certain death.   Jesus justly rebuked him as being on the side of fallen man and not of God.  Jesus utterly refused to compromise at any level with the spirit of antichrist (Matt. 16:20-23).

Today, we should not be surprised to find this antichrist spirit well entrenched within the man-built religious institution we call “church”.  We should not be amazed if it presents itself  as the voice of reason coming from those we love and care for the most.   Why should we wonder that it rises up in the flesh of other believers when it also rises in our own?   Ultimately and at the appointed time this hateful spirit will morph into flesh and blood as a living person, just as the Christ, the personification of divine Love, came as a living person (2 Thes. 2:3).  

As we enter into the final stages of this war between Christ and antichrist, He calls us to be as wise as serpents and as innocent as doves.  We have been given the Holy Spirit in order to discern all things.  Compromise with the antichrist religious spirit is not an option, especially when we find it within our own hearts.

Babylon, Basra, H.G. Wells, The New World Order and Revelation

That was the plan all along... a world socialist government!

In 1940 a book entitled, "The New World Order" by H.G. Wells, he claims: "It is the system of nationalist individualism that has to go... We are living in the end of the sovereign states... In the great struggle to evoke a Westernized World Socialism, contemporary governments may vanish....Countless people...will hate the new world order....and will die protesting against it."  H.G. Wells also wrote about this future world socialist government in his book The Shape of Things To Come which was also made into a feature film."

In 1953 "The Impact of Science on Society" by Fabian Socialist Bertrand Russell is published in which he declares:  "I think the subject which will be of most importance politically is mass psychology... Various results will soon be arrived at: that the influence of home is obstructive... although this science will be diligently studied, it will be rigidly confined to the governing class. The populace will not be allowed to know how its convictions were generated. When the technique has been perfected, every government that has been in charge of education for a generation will be able to control its subjects securely without the need of armies or policemen... Educational propaganda, with government's help, could achieve this result in a generation. There are, however, two powerful forces opposed to such a policy: one is religion; the other is nationalism....A scientific world society cannot be stable unless there is a world government."

The plan for a one world government and a one world religion goes all the way back to the Tower of Babel and the ancient Babylonian religions headed by Nimrod who was a prototype of the Antichrist.  In the Book of Daniel and in Revelation Chapters 17& 18 we see references to this final world empire.  The "Fourth Beast" or the "Revived Roman Empire."  But, many Bible scholars believe that a literal Babylon must be rebuilt which will be both a world economic center and a one world religious center. What makes this especially interesting is that the science fiction writer H.G. Wells called openly for a one world socialist government in his books like "The Open Conspiracy: Blue Prints for a World Revolution," "A New World Order" and "The Shape of Things To Come" which was made into a movie.  In these books Wells, a Fabian Socialist calls for a world socialist government run by some kind of scientific elite.

In his 1933 book, "The Shape of Things to Come " Wells predicts that the headquarters of this world government would be in Basra, Iraq which is relatively near Babylon and modern Iran.  A year later the occult teacher Alice A. Bailey whose writings are channeled from a spirit guide. the Tibetan Master, Djwahl Kuhl.  Bailey wrote in The Externalization of the Hierarchy about "points of light" in connection with a "New Group of World Servers" and claims that 1934 marks the beginning of "the organizing of the men and women... group work of a new order... [with] progress defined by service... the world of the Brotherhood... the Forces of Light... [and] out of the spoliation of all existing culture and civilization, the new world order must be built."

In President George H. W. Bush's State of the Union Address, January 1991, President Bush talked about Iraq and used the words illumined:
"If anyone tells you America's best days are behind her, they're looking the wrong way."

Tonight, I come before this house, and the American people, with an appeal for renewal. This is not merely a call for new government initiatives, it is a call for new initiative in government, in our communities, and from every American—to prepare for the next American century.

America has always led by example. So who among us will set this example? Which of our citizens will lead us in this next American century? Everyone who steps forward today, to get one addict off drugs; to convince one troubled teen-ager not to give up on life; to comfort one AIDS patient; to help one hungry child.

We have within our reach the promise of renewed America. We can find meaning and reward by serving some purpose higher than ourselves—a shining purpose, the illumination of a thousand points of light. It is expressed by all who know the irresistible force of a child's hand, of a friend who stands by you and stays there—a volunteer's generous gesture, an idea that is simply right...."

This term "the illumination of a thousand points of light" is an occult term.  This term is used publicly by the same President Bush who openly spoke of a new world order.

Alice Bailey who channeled the words "points of light" in the book Externalization of the Hierarchy which was published by the Lucis Trust, incorporated originally in New York as the Lucifer Publishing Company. Lucis Trust is a United Nations NGO and is actively involved in U.N. summits. Assistant Secretary General of the U.N. Robert Mueller credited the creation of his World Core Curriculum for education to the underlying teachings of Djwahl Kuhl via Alice Bailey's writings on the subject.

In his 1939 book New World Order by H. G. Wells calls for  a collectivist one-world state"' or "new world order" comprised of "socialist democracies." He advocates "universal conscription for service" and declares that "nationalist individualism... is the world's disease."  President Obama called for a mandatory "civilian service."

In "The Open Conspiracy: Blue Prints for a World Revolution," Wells writes:
"The political world of the... Open Conspiracy must weaken, efface, incorporate and supersede existing governments... The Open Conspiracy is the natural inheritor of socialist and communist enthusiasms; it may be in control of Moscow before it is in control of New York... The character of the Open Conspiracy will now be plainly displayed... It will be a world religion."  Wells understood that a belief in a one world government would have to be religious in nature, there would have to be a coming one world religion.

The purpose of modern education is social engineering designed to program students into accepting this new world religion of global government.  In 1947  John Dewey, the father of American public education said that education must teach "...establishment of a genuine world order, an order in which national sovereignty is subordinate to world authority... "

In 1947 National Education Association Associate Secretary William Carr writes in the NEA Journal that it is the job of teachers to:
"... teach about the various proposals that have been made for the strengthening of the United Nations and the establishment of a world citizenship and world government."

Simultaneously, the technology of mind control is advancing as quickly as computer technology or biotechnology.  In 1948 in his book Walden II behavioral psychologist B.F. Skinner proposes "a perfect society or new and more perfect order" in which children are to be raised by the State, rather than by parents or the family.  (This is the purpose of daycare starting at 3 years old ) According  to B.F. Skinner, who was photographed keeping his daughter in a box, children are trained or programmed from birth.  Skinner's theories on behavior modification or the brainwashing of children would be widely implemented by educators in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s as Values Clarification and Outcome Based Education.

As the momentum of this coming one world religion has increased the current Laodecian Church in America has been blind to both its reality and implications.  In 1974, The World Conference of Religion for Peace, is held in Belgium.  At that convention, Douglas Roche presents a report entitled "We Can Achieve a New World Order" which states, "The U.N. calls for wealth redistribution: In a report entitled New International Economic Order, the U.N. General Assembly outlines a plan to redistribute the wealth from the rich to the poor nations."

In the last several months we have heard the term new international economic world order from leaders around the world.  Behind the financial meltdown there are a number of agenda's.  First, the establishment of a one world economic system and a cashless society.  Secondly, the establishment of a global government.  Third, the transfer of wealth from the American Middle Class and the Middle Class of other nations in order to artificially equalize the playing field.  What American Middle Class Christians and Christians from other nations do not understand is that there is an active plan to lower their standard of living.  There are a number of strategies for accomplishing this goal.  First, is outsourcing of jobs.  Second, is lowering the standard of living by destroying the values of the dollar and moving into a global currency.  Third, as the American automobile manufacturing giants collapse and America no longer makes a large number of cars, China is already manufacturing massive numbers of electrical cars. 

By using the fear of global warming, American and European consumers can be convinced to willingly give up their SUV's and drive Chinese made electrical cars.  In addition, the American Middle Class and their children are being programmed to willingly lower their standard of living through reduced energy consumption.  In practical terms that means public transportation instead of private cars, smaller houses, less food, bicycles and in general being happy with a Third World or Socialist standard of living.  Remember the elite, and that includes the elite environmentalists will give up nothing!

A new world order is being established and the capitol of Planet Earth may well be in Babylon and Basra.  Writing in 1932 in his book, The Shape of Things To Come: The Final Revolution which is the original full title Wells, projects that the first World Conference would be held in Basra, Iraq.  The Book of Revelation talks about a coming one world religion and a one world economic system.  Revelation 17 & 18 seems to indicate that its headquarters could be in Babylon, Iraq.

UNESCO,  the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is pumping millions of dollars into Babylon and several other historical sites in Iraq. With the help of private investors the UN is hoping to turn Babylon in to a thriving center of tourism and commerce. If everything goes according to plan, Babylon will be a cultural center complete with shopping malls, hotels, and maybe even a theme park.

Don’t be misled by confusing the Fall of Babylon in history with the Destruction of Babylon, as prophesied in the Bible. Many Bible handbooks, dictionaries, and commentaries give you the impression that Babylon was “destroyed” in 539 BC. But it is important to realize that when Cyrus the Great captured Babylon he was able to take it over without a battle. In fact, this feat is celebrated in the famed Cylinder of Cyrus that is featured in the British Museum in London. Babylon served as a secondary capital of the Persian Empire for two centuries until Alexander the Great conquered the Persians in 325 BC. He made it his capital; in fact, he died there. Four of his generals then divided up the empire, and subsequently Babylon gradually atrophied over the centuries.

After years of neglect, misuse and haphazard reconstruction of the ancient city of Babylon, a master plan is being developed for the restoration of the Mesopotamian site, in present-day Iraq. The project, called “The Future of Babylon,” was announced in a news release by the World Monuments Fund, which will collaborate with Iraq’s State Board of Antiquities and Heritage. Babylon endured numerous restoration and reconstruction projects during the reign of Saddam Hussein; it was heavily plundered after his fall, and used as the site of an American military base. The “Future of Babylon” project, financed by a $700,000 grant from the State Department, will map the city’s archeological sites, develop conservation plans and pursue possibilities for tourism and education.

Around the same time Wells writes his book, in 1933, 33rd  President FDR introduced the Great Seal on the back of the dollar bill, which still includes the Latin “Novus Ordo Seclorum” translating “New Secular Order” or “New World Order.” The term was next used by Thule secret society member Adolph Hitler when he claimed “National Socialism (Nazism) will use its own revolution for the establishing of a New World Order.”  The Thule Society had its roots connected to the same occult beliefs as Alice Bailey who channeled these words around 1934:
“Behind the division of humanity stand those Enlightened Ones whose right and privilege it is to watch over human evolution and to guide the destinies of men…This they do through the implanting of ideas in the minds of the world thinkers, so that these ideas in due time receive recognition and eventually become controlling factors in human life. They train the members of the New Group of World Servers in the task of changing these ideas into ideals. These in turn become the desired objectives of the thinkers and are then taught to the powerful middle class and worked up into world forms of governments or religion, thus forming the basis of the New World Order.”
